Application Areas
TREASURY works across six different application areas, selected to address key industry challenges facing the European semiconductor manufacturing sector. Through these application areas, the project will validate its solutions in order to demonstrate how its building blocks can strengthen the European semiconductor ecosystem, reinforcing the EU’s technological sovereignty.
AP1 | Virtual Metrology
Partners: AMS, NXP, AT&S, IMEC, EVG
Virtual metrology uses sensor and equipment data to predict process-phase or equipment parameters. It reduces or replaces physical metrology, which can be slow and expensive.
Vision: Move semiconductor manufacturing from measurement-heavy process control toward predictive, non-invasive and data-driven process insight.
Mission: Develop and validate virtual metrology models that reduce physical measurements, predict quality-relevant parameters, improve feedback loops and support higher yields across different fab and equipment environments.
AP2 | Quality Control
Partners: ADI, NXP, MEMC
Quality control ensures critical parameters in manufacturing are met and challenges are detected early. Ideally, it enables root-cause analysis, with the long-term goal being zero-defect manufacturing.
Vision: Make quality control more proactive and adaptive through AI support, progressing towards zero-defect semiconductor manufacturing.
Mission: Integrate AI/ML, edge quality control, predictive analysis, defect diagnostics and root-cause analysis in semiconductor manufacturing processes.
AP3 | Real-time yield optimisation
Partners: AMS, X-FAB, ADI, AT&S, BESI
Real-time yield optimisation focuses on advanced process control, aiming to reduce output variability, maximise throughput, accelerate recipe development and minimise defective products, hence waste.
Vision: Enable fabs to optimise yield continuously and intelligently, instead of relying on delayed analysis or manual process correction.
Mission: Combine real-time and historical data, AI-based predictive analytics, adaptive process control, defect classification and root-cause analysis to improve yield, process robustness and manufacturing efficiency.
AP4 | Workforce AI-augmentation
Partners: X-FAB, NXP, MEMC
Using AI alongside workers enhances human abilities and reduces mundane, repetitive tasks while increasing overall productivity and quality. TREASURY focuses on engineering agents, generative AI assistants, and LLM-based troubleshooting.
Vision: Reduce the impact of skills shortages by giving technicians, operators and engineers AI-supported access to knowledge, documentation and decision support.
Mission: Develop AI assistants and LLM-based agents that support troubleshooting, documentation, root-cause analysis, technical search and workflow automation, while keeping humans in the decision-making loop.
AP5 | Dynamic production planning
Partners: AMS, XIVER, MEMC, BOSCH
Dynamic production planning uses AI-enhanced analytics and digital twin technologies to address fab logistics, optimize workflows, reduce waste and ensure high-quality output. It focuses on planning in real-time, in environments with a large mix of products and processes.
Vision: Make semiconductor production planning more responsive, predictive and efficient across complex fab environments.
Mission: Integrate fab data, AI models, digital twins, recipe builders, process mining and scheduling tools to improve production flexibility, reduce cycle times, optimise material flows and support sustainability-aware planning.
AP6 | Equipment innovation and productivity
Partners: AMS, XIVER, AT&S, BOSCH, BESI, THERMO
Equipment innovation and productivity uses data and AI to improve the performance of legacy semiconductor equipment and inform the development of more competitive equipment, with higher performance, lower maintenance costs and scrap reduction
Vision: Strengthen Europe’s semiconductor equipment base by making existing and future equipment smarter, more reliable and more productive.
Mission: Integrate building blocks for virtual prototyping, data-driven equipment design, predictive maintenance, equipment health monitoring and real-time process control to improve uptime, reduce failures and support more competitive European equipment offerings.
